Tovek Tools Setup language
The whole installation of Tovek Tools is contained in one EXE file, and
this one file also contains all languages supported in the user interface
for the given version of Tovek Tools. The basic filename is ttDDD.exe,
where DDD is the version number, i.e. tt308.exe for Tovek Tools version 3.08.
When a setup is started, as a first step it shows the dialog box for
selecting language for installation. This dialog box is always in English,
languages are written as close as possible to the native form (i.e. Francais
instead of French) but using ASCII characters only (7 bit, less than 128),
and the language name is then followed by a two letter language code
(i.e. FR for French/Francais.) When you select a language, rest of the
setup and then the Tovek Tools is using this language in its user interface
and also as a default language for new collections.
It's possible, however, to skip the first dialog box and start setup in
a preferred language. One way how to do it is to rename the EXE file into
ttDDDxx.exe, where xx is the two letter language code from the first
step. As an example, if tt308.exe is the downloaded file, tt308de.exe will
skip the language selection and will install everything in German. Links to
the various language versions of Tovek Tools from the download page, for
instance, are only links to one identical EXE file stored under different
names. Official releases of Tovek Tools are saved this way, other versions
are not.
The second way how to change the setup language, and many other things as
well, is to use the admin setup. Setup in this mode can be controlled by
a configuration file, can be performed without user intervention, and was
designed for large-scale deployment of Tovek Tools. It will be documented
here in some time, probably when the need arises.
Another option how to simplify the setup is to copy your licence file -
the file you might have received which has a .lic extension - into the
same folder as the Tovek Tools setup EXE file and renaming it, if necessary,
to tt3.lic. This way in the setup step "Licence Information" the
licence from that file will be offered as a default. Please note that it
is not an error if you haven't received a .lic file - the encoded licence
text that can be pasted into the "Licence Information" is the actual .lic
file transmitted in a different form.
